About the Department
The department was established in June 1989 and offered fisheries as a one of the optional subject at B. Sc level. Initial the department was run under Zoology staff afterword separate teaching staff is appointed. Presently two full time permanent faculties namely Dr. J.M Gaikwad; Head and Professor and Dr. S.D Ahirrao; Professor working in the Department. Department has two permanent non teaching staff namely Shri.Sdashiv Jondhale (Lab Assistant) and Shri J.S Rodge.(Lab attendant)
The faculties are recognized as P.G teacher and Research guide of this university. So far 11 students awarded Ph.D,and 01 student awarded M.Phil degree. Department has completed 02 major and 02 miner UGC funded research projects and two university funded minor research project. As a part of research outcome faculties have published more than-120 research papers in national and international journals, as well as 03 books and 07 chapters have published. This department conducted 01 national level conference on international year of biodiversity 2010: “A review on Indian biodiversity and its conservation” on 16 – 17 December 2010.and two workshop on new syllabus(CBCS Pattern) framing. Department organized regularly academic and social activities for the development of students time to time such as seminars, study tour, publication of wall bulletin Bio Times, well come, farewell programs etc to enhance the social duties.
Fishery Department is a well equipped department with 01 laboratory for U.G, 01 laboratory for research activities and ICT Room. Department is also well supported with the e – resources for the students.
