Parbhani district enjoys the reputation of being a remarkable place in Marathwada for its long glorious history and in the span of time the magnificent contribution that it has made regarding art and literature is worth appreciating. The place Parbhani always been recognized for its fertility and productivity of art and literature. In other words Parbhani stands as an unchallenged potential force for creation in the domain of art and literature. 

In this district Shri Shivaji College, Parbhani was established in 1961. In its growth and expansion the college has played a vital role in socio-cultural and literary development of the district. At the same time it has devoted all its efforts for social, political and national awakening of students and natives. Shri Shivaji College, Parbhani has played a major role in the educational development in minorities and backward classes by enhancing them with facility of free education. Meanwhile the college has put in consideration all the emerging demands of society consequently it was decided by the authorities of the college to introduce Urdu as a subject and establish Urdu Department in the college.

 As such Urdu Department in Shri Shivaji College was established in the year 1974-75. Since then the department of Urdu has shown its involvement in all types of academic and co-curricular activities, so many cultural and literary programs have been organized by the department of Urdu. All programs were to strengthen national integration and social awakening in students, parents, new writers and poets have been benefited by the programs. In the same way they supported to create their own identity in literary circles and to have recognition in literature.
